世界各地の歴史に残る、チェスとも将棋とも異なる系統の盤上ゲームを再現しています。 捕獲のルールも、勝利条件も、盤の形さえも、それぞれの文化圏でまったく違う発想から 生まれています。 Traditional board games from around the world that belong to neither the chess nor the shogi family. Capture rules, victory conditions, even the shape of the board itself spring from entirely different ideas in each culture.

北欧・ブリテン諸島Scandinavia & the British Isles Tafl family

非対称の陣営(王と守備隊 対 攻撃側)、挟み込みによる捕獲というタフル系ゲームの系譜。チェスの祖先の一つとも言われる。 The Tafl family: asymmetric sides (a king and his defenders versus a ring of attackers), capture by flanking. Sometimes called one of chess's own distant ancestors.

中世ドイツ・デンマーク国境地域The German–Danish Borderlands Schleswig-Holstein

城・戦場・聖域という3つの領域で駒の動きが変わる、独自の地理的発想を持つゲーム。 A game built on its own geography: piece movement changes depending on whether you stand in a castle, the open battlefield, or the holy centre.

中世ヨーロッパの数学者たちMedieval Europe's Mathematicians The Philosophers' Game

駒の価値がそのまま数そのものであるという、修道院や大学で遊ばれた異色のゲーム。 A game once played in monasteries and universities, where a piece's power is simply the number written on it.

中国China Animal-rank capture games

動物の強弱そのものを駒の力とし、川や巣穴といった地形が捕獲ルールを変える中国の伝統系譜。 A Chinese tradition where an animal's natural rank becomes its piece strength, and terrain — rivers, dens — rewrites the rules of capture.

インド亜大陸The Indian Subcontinent Cross & circle race games

サイコロの出目で決まる周回レース。パチシ系の系譜は、盤の形そのものが信仰と結びついた例も多い。 Dice-driven races around a circuit. Games in the Pachisi lineage often tie the very shape of the board to religious symbolism.

古代ペルシャAncient Persia Nard, ancestor of backgammon

現在のバックギャモンの祖とされる、6世紀ごろのサーサーン朝ペルシャで遊ばれていたレースゲーム。両者の駒はすべて盤外から入れていく、より古風な作法を残している。 A race game played in Sassanid-era Persia around the 6th century, considered backgammon's direct ancestor. It preserves an older custom where every piece starts off the board.

古代メソポタミアAncient Mesopotamia The Royal Game of Ur

紀元前2600年ごろの王墓から出土した、現存する最古級のボードゲームの一つ。四面体のサイコロと、駒を守る「バラ紋様」のマスが特徴。 Excavated from a royal tomb dating to around 2600 BCE, one of the oldest known board games. Marked by tetrahedral dice and protective "rosette" squares.

マンカラ系譜The Mancala Family Sowing games

アフリカに起源を持つとされる、種や石を穴にまいていく「数取り」ゲームの世界的な系譜。カラハはその中でも広く定着した標準ルール。 A worldwide lineage of sowing games, believed to trace back to Africa. Kalah is the ruleset that became its de facto international standard.

中世北欧の狩りゲームMedieval Northern Europe Hunt games

フネファタルと同じ北方の盤上ゲーム文化から生まれた、少数対多数の非対称な狩りの系譜。 Born from the same Northern European board-game culture as Hnefatafl — a lineage of asymmetric hunts pitting the few against the many.

ネパールNepal Tiger and goat hunt games

虎4頭と山羊20頭という極端な戦力差を、配置の駆け引きと飛び越しの捕獲で埋める、ヒマラヤ地域の伝統ゲーム。 A traditional Himalayan game where an extreme four-versus-twenty imbalance is bridged by placement strategy on one side and leaping capture on the other.

中国・台湾China & Taiwan Dark chess

象棋の駒をすべて伏せて配置し、めくって初めて正体が分かる。記憶と確率の読み合いが加わった、象棋の異色の遊び方。 Every Xiangqi piece starts face-down, its identity unknown until flipped. Memory and probability enter a game that otherwise plays by Xiangqi's own rules.

地中海・イベリア半島The Mediterranean & Iberia Alquerque family

チェッカーの元祖とされる、紀元前までさかのぼる古代の捕獲ゲームの系譜。ムーア人によってスペインへ伝わった。 The ancestral line of checkers, dating back to antiquity and carried into Spain by the Moors.

古代からの陣取りゲームAncient Line-Forming Games Mill games

直線に駒を並べる「ミル」で相手を捕獲する、エジプトの寺院にまで痕跡が残る古い系譜。 Capture by lining pieces into a "mill" — a lineage old enough to leave traces on Egyptian temple walls.

19世紀ヨーロッパ19th-century Europe Star-board race games

「チャイニーズ」という名を持ちながら、実際はアメリカのHalmaを土台にドイツで生まれた家庭向けゲーム。 Despite the name, a game actually born in Germany as a family adaptation of the American game Halma.

21世紀・現代The 21st Century Designed against computers

チェスがコンピューターに敗れた後、あえて機械の苦手な仕組みを組み込んで作られた新しいゲーム。 A new kind of game, deliberately engineered to exploit what machines still struggle with — built after chess itself fell to the computer.

イタリアItaly Trump-suit trick-taking

ラテンスートの札を使う、イタリアの定番トランプゲームの系譜。スートを合わせる義務がなく、切り札と得点札の読み合いが核となる。 A lineage of classic Italian card games played with the Latin-suited deck. There's no obligation to follow suit — reading trumps and point cards is the whole game.

イギリスEngland Pegging & hand-scoring games

手札の組み合わせを数え上げる「役計算」と、カードを出し合いながら得点を刻む「ペギング」、2つの異なる遊びが1ゲームに同居する伝統パブゲーム。 A traditional pub game where two very different modes of play share one game — counting combinations in your hand, and pegging points in real time as cards are laid down.

北欧・ドイツ語圏Scandinavia & the German-speaking World Bluffing dice games

2個のサイコロをカップの中で振り、出目を告げ合う心理戦。本当を言ってもいいし、はったりをかけてもいい——最後は「疑う」の一言で決着がつく。 Roll two dice under a cup and announce what came up — truthfully or not. A psychological duel that ends the moment someone says "I don't believe you."

モンゴル帝国The Mongol Empire Archer capture games

バトゥ・ハンが遠征の合間に指したという伝説を持つ、13世紀のタタール発祥ゲーム。盤に引かれた線は一見無秩序だが、その配置そのものが駆け引きを生む。 Legend holds that Batu Khan played this between campaigns. Born among the 13th-century Tatars, its seemingly arbitrary web of lines is exactly what gives the game its bite.
